Tirana, Albania - The perpetrator of a tragic episode in the “American Hospital” in Tirana, Lefter Canaj was arrested by the police on Tuesday morning. Canaj was identified as the person that set on fire the dialysis pavilion causing the tragic death of two women. He will now be prosecuted for murder and arson.
This unprecedented episode occurred during Monday’s midday hours when Canaj threw gasoline over another patient, later identified as Dashamir Saraci, setting him on fire. Preliminary verification show that this act of madness originated after a banal hassle between two men for the line in the dialysis pavilion.
Firefighter brigade and police forces prompt intervention prevented flames expansion in the entire hospital. Two patients perished asphyxiated by the smoke while two more patients remained injured.
