A dramatic video taken on Monday morning from a high-rise building in Beijing’s Central Business District shows a thick smog invade the city as blue skies steadily disappear from sight.
Beijing will extend the orange alert for heavy air pollution for another three days as heavy smog is set to continue to envelop the city, the environmental authorities said on Monday. The alert, which was originally effective from Friday to Sunday, will not be lifted until Wednesday midnight, according to a statement issued by the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau. Under the emergency plan, heavy polluting gasoline-fueled vehicles are banned from roads. Some manufacturing firms have been required to cut production.
