A toddler and his grandmother were run over after she decided the middle of the road was a sensible place to let him go to the toilet.
The pair were run over as a car failed to spot the squatting two-year-old and the woman who was holding him on the zebra crossing.
The horrific accident left the toddler slightly injured, but his grandmother died after having suffered critical crush injuries while trapped under the vehicle.
Footage of the incident, which has led to one arrest, shows the tot sitting on the zebra crossing and his nan trying to lift him up when the driver, named as Mr Pan makes a right turn
The motorist fails to notice them despite being just inches away from the front of the car.
He then drives his orange SUV at them, knocking both to the ground and trapping them underneath in the south China city of Luzhou.
Shocked pedestrians rushed over to help lift the vehicle off the victims.
When toddler was freed and then his nan was pulled from under the vehicle too, but the elderly woman appeared to have no vital signs by the time paramedics and police arrived.
The authorities confirmed the woman had died during the accident and pronounced her dead at the scene.
