House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) highlighted once again how divided the Democratic Party is when she announced that she would support Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) in his reelection campaign during her weekly press conference on Thursday.
Lipinski is currently in the fight of his political life, facing a tough primary challenge from businesswoman and nonprofit executive Marie Newman, who has been endorsed by several “influential progressive groups.”
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced earlier this week that they would not endorse Lipinski in his reelection campaign before the March 20th primary.
The primary battle has been focused on Lipinski’s opposition to abortion, while Newman is an advocate for access to abortion services.
A reporter asked Pelosi whether she supported Lipinski’s reelection campaign after Pelosi’s weekly press conference had concluded.
