Video footage has caught the horrifying moment two men poured petrol over a beggar and tried to set him alight.
The incident which took place in Rio de Janeiro on 6 March is thought to be a revenge attack.
The homeless man narrowly escaped with his life, managing to dodge as the two men threw lit matches at him.
Following the incident, two suspects identified as Walter Periera de Souza, 59, and Jose Vicente Lucindo,61, have been charged with attempted murder and arson . They are also accused of endangering the lives of those living in the apartment block next door.
In the CCTV footage, a man can be seen throwing a bucket containing petrol over the homeless man.
