Video footage has caught the moment a car thief plunged into an icy river in a bid to evade arrest.
Police chased the red Ford Fiesta through Castle Bromwich, West Midlands during rush hour before the driver then attempted to run through the river.
In the dashcam footage recorded on January 26, Christopher King, 38, can be seen driving ahead of the police car.
Officers deploy a stinger however the driver managed to speed away.
As the police put their sirens on, the Ford Fiesta accelerates and gives chase.
King drives at more than double the 30mph speed limit down the middle of a two-way road.
