Israel’s military carried out a series of airstrikes against Hamas targets in northern Gaza on Wednesday in retaliation against “heavy gunfire” from the territory.
Four Hamas military facilities were hit by missiles, according to an Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson.
A further three targets, reportedly weapons manufacturing sites, were also struck in the operation.
Israel said it was responding to heavy machine-gun fire from positions in northern Gaza that reportedly hit six homes in Sderot, an Israeli town located less than half a kilometre from the Gaza border.
Footage from Gaza shows one significant blast hit a densely populated residential neigbourhood.
