It's unfortunate that there will always be bigotry towards one another no matter the social progression or "acceptance" as our global community truly becomes the ultimate melting pot. People will always divide by wealth, race, color or religion, etc. This trait is natural , but can be over come or suppressed, though never entirely irradiated. Through the coming decades and centuries as the social economical barriers "blend" together and we become ever more tolerant, the majority of the human race will resemble something not unlike a cross between a person of middle eastern decent and American anglo/Asian/Hispanic mix. In other words, we will all at least look brown in the future and have ever more similar features! Until then, can't we all just get along?! There is no us or them. We all live, work, eat, sleep and breath in the same places on the same planet, in the same way. All cultures ,though different in varying degrees, have many, many aspects of everyday life in common from religion to the foods we eat. It is easy to blame our problems on a group of people, but ask yourself, if that group of people didn't exist, who then would there be to blame for the daily problems in your life! I have a mixed marriage myself and love the opportunity to teach our children about both cultures and heritages equally. (German and Mexican) Though there was some initial friction amongst both sides of our respective families, that quickly dissolved and petty bigotries faded away as the in-laws got to know us and our families first hand. I am glad to live in a country that allows such a marriage and a city/community that also treats my family like everyone else's and not objects of shame or ridicule.

Yeah!!! Tell your ma. Thats what I would do and will if my mom has a problem with my girlfriend being black. This sounds like they are all from the south anyways. Relaxed but with short fuses that once start continue for a long time. Sad to see two families divided like that though.

Both my wife's brothers are married to African-American women, and both their families are some of the classiest people you would ever want to meet.What a shame this marriage is getting off to a rocky start.And you can fight or argue ,but leave the racial crap out of it, each side knows the other side is a different color.Get by it.
