This reminds me of The Honeymooners episode where Alice substitutes grape juice for the wine that Ralph and Norton think they're drinking. This prank wouldn't work on "problem" drinkers or alcoholics, but young college kids are easier to fool. I agree that some of them probably ingested other substances, but I'm fairly certain that most just had the non-alcoholic beer. I drank O'Doul's when I was pregnant and I couldn't tell the difference, and I've been drinking since '75.
