British Soldiers Blow Up Their Own Plane
February 13, 2007 A British RAF C-130J Hercules aircraft was damaged beyond repaid by IED's during a tactical landing in Maysan Province, Iraq. The aircraft, which was carrying six crew and 58 passengers, veered off the runway after being hit by two improvised explosive devices, catching fire on its badly damaged port wing The site was secured and, after a thorough assessment of the damage, it was concluded that the aircraft could not be recovered without exposing troops to undue risk. There was also a potential risk that anti-Iraqi forces might obtain information on specialized equipment.
