I was

born and raised in the US, and this country is not what it was. It is now a disgrace to itself. The rest of the world hates us for a reason. There appears to be a ton of ignorance prevalent on here. Folks calling the U.S. a "S***hole" of a country are a naive and truly asleep. You have obviously never been anywhere else in your life, where people struggle everyday against dictators, and murderous, genocidal regimes. You don't know how many people have fought hell and more just to make it over here, and take extreme pride in attaining their U.S. Citizenship. If you put yourself in their shoes you would hardly last more than a day or two. To the others who wish to state what the flag stands for in terms of negativity, they are dead wrong. The flag stands for a sovereign Nation, and one which was created through the sacrifices of countless Patriots over the last 232 Years. America is not perfect, but show me one single nation which so many risk life and limb for, every single day, just to reach its shores. The truly beautiful aspect of America is that it is what you make of it. If you see a wrong, you have the power to change it, without fear of political oppositions raping and murdering your entire family. For that alone, you should be grateful.

In some Islamic countries you can be put to death for mishandling the Quran. Is the Quran just a book? Or is it a symbol of a people's religion? In Turkey, you can be beaten, jailed, and possibly put to death for defiling an image of Ataturk. Is Ataturk just a man? Is he a symbol of change that saved a nation? There are several countries where it is illegal to defile their flag. The fact that we can burn the flag, walk on it, say what we want about it, and the fact that others are free to voice their opposition about it's use is a testament to what a great country this is. Despite the angry look on his face, that vet is proud that those assholes are using the flag in that way because they are exercising the freedom that he served to protect. And if they had any sense, they would thank him for protecting their right to disrespect him and the symbol of the country that affords them that freedom.

I am not American but I have lived and worked on and off in the US for the last 12 years. I have worked with people of all nationalities from all over the globe and we all share the same opinion. Do the job, make some money, get out and head back to civilisation. I have worked in some of the s**test countries going and the US is the only one that I try to avoid if at all possible. The TV, the radio, the food, the newspapers, the cars, the beer...its just all terrible! Then factor in the uber violent police, the raw consumerism, gun crime, no public 3rd level education or healthcare, no statutory holidays or vacations...the list goes on. There is nothing wrong with being proud of where you are from but I really dont know how you guys can see yourselve as a beacon to the rest of the world. Let the flaming begin.
