While many of us would have either argued or walked off fuming from auto rickshaw drivers who refuse to charge by meter, an American professor did just the opposite in Hyerabad by singing Bollywood numbers and shaming the driver into turning the meter on. In a video posted on YouTube on Wednesday night, Christine Fair, an assistant professor with Georgetown University in Washington DC, starts by saying that she had hailed an auto rickshaw to go to the Charminar and the driver has refused to charge by meter. Fair then tells the driver, in Hindi, that she has all the time in the world to sit in his auto and entertain those who hail his vehicle before singing 'Mujhe Neend Naa Aaye' (Dil, 1990) and 'Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai' (Anarkali, 1953). Thinking the better of her offer, the driver turns on the meter, and she ends the video with "Hum jaa rahe hain, meherbaani ji! Smile!"
