MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Memphis mother accused of stabbing her four children to death has been identified and officially charged. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Shanynthia Gardner, 29, stabbed her four children at her apartment Friday. Deputies were called to the scene at Greens at Irene Apartments in 4700 block of Southern Hill Drive near Hacks Cross Road around 1 p.m. The scene was described as egregious and gruesome. When deputies arrived at the home, they found Gardner with superficial cuts to her neck and wrists, according to the affidavit. According to the affidavit, deputies found the four children with severe lacerations to their throats. They were all pronounced dead. The four children were four-year-old Tallen, three-year-old Sya, two-year-old Sahvi, and six-month-old Yahzi. Deputies said a seven-year-old survived the attack. The affidavit said a witness saw the seven-year-old leave the apartment yelling that his mother stabbed his sister. The witness told deputies he saw Gardner exit the home with a large knife in her hand before going back inside. Deputies found two children in the living room and two in the bedroom. According to the affidavit, Gardner called the children’s father and admitted to killing the four children. A large butcher knife with what appeared to be blood on it was recovered in the apartment. Detrail Clayton is the father of the seven-year-old boy, Dallen. He is hoping to be reunited with his son soon.
