The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has laid criminal charges against eight young boys for killing a dog.
The incident was caught on a cellphone.
In the video, the group of boys from Manenberg in Cape Town are seen torturing the dog before hanging and stoning it to death.
Aged between seven and 17, the young boys drag the dog with a nylon rope into an open field.
They have brought along their pit-bull, which they force to attack the other dog.
One of the boys is heard in the footage saying to the dog: "Shame. You’re going to die, today. You’re going to die, not tomorrow. Today.”
After several minutes of torture, the dog was hanged from a tree before it was taken down, still alive, and pelted with large bricks until it died.
The SPCA was alerted after the video emerged on social media. It said the boys need to be taught a lesson.
"We’ve been able to identify the perpetrators... all of the children that were seen in the video, as well as the child that was actually filming it. We have opened a case with the Manenberg police station," said Belinda Abraham of Good Hope SPCA.
