An Indian woman is lucky to be alive after she slipped and fell on a bed of hot coals while taking part in the ritual of fire walking.
The terrifying scene was caught on video, in which people could be seen leaping across the hot coals. One woman slipped and caught fire as the others rushed past her. The woman rolled off the coals while medics at the scene hurried to assist her.
Walking barefoot on hot coals is an ancient practice, with its earliest references dating back thousand of years to at least 1200 B.C. It is often seen as a fit of passage and a test of strength and courage.
