Cook County Jail hostage incident ends with jailers and police storming the wing

Two inmates, Martin Alvarado and Cordarryl Stevenson, took over a housing tier at the jail and held another inmate hostage around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Smith.



The 18-man tier was put on lockdown until correctional officers regained control around 7:30 p.m., Smith said. The detainee who was taken hostage suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to a hospital. No officers were hurt.
