Rio 2016 Communications Director Mario Andrada confirmed an incident of sexual assault in the Olympic Village, during a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Monday.
“We can confirm that an athlete has been detained by local police under the charge of sexual assault. You know Brazilian law needs to be respected and this is something that we have to agree on,†Andrada said during a press conference.
According to reports, Jonas Junius, a 22-year-old Namibian lightweight boxer was arrested for attempted sexual- assault of one of the village’s housekeepers. The arrest follows the detaining of Moroccan boxer Hassan Sada on Friday. Sada is currently in jail after being charged with the rape of two of the village’s maids.
