Saturday afternoon Milwaukee police shot an armed, black suspect in the back while in giving chase.
Later that evening, a large group of people started a confrontation with the police during the investigation which became violent. Several cars were set on fire including one police cruiser as well as a gas station.
The officer-involved shooting happened at approximately 3:30 PM and involved two MPD officers who had stopped a car near the 3200 block of N. 44th Street. The two suspects inside fled on foot with the officers giving chase. One of the suspects pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the officers and was killed, according to CBS.
In the hours that followed, a large group of about 100 residents of the area, mostly black, started taunting the police
A short while later, the taunts turned violent as the mob started pelting the cop cars with bricks and rocks. One cop car was set on fire.
Police also reported on Twitter that Milwaukee fire fighters were kept from extinguishing the flames because shots were being fired by some of the rioters.
