Police body camera video released by Cleveland Police shows officers saving a life. A tiny dog fell down a sewer drain, and officers jumped into action. It happened last month on Cleveland’s east side near Yale and St. Clair. Daphne, fell into a sewer drain, and her owner, Edna Sutton called 911. "And so I told ‘em, I'm not gonna move. Dead or alive, she's going home. That's my child in that hole, and I was very upset,” Sutton said. At first, she heard some splashing, then silence. Sutton says a dispatcher told her no one could come to help. Then 5th district officers arrived. They called detective Sean Smith. Smith is a dog-lover, and he started a police group called Badges for Bullies to help save dogs from dog fighting rings and more. The body camera video show officers pried open a nearby manhole, Smith climbed down, and he found Daphne. The dog was dirty, but alive. Edna Sutton said, "And they were willing to crawl down in that nasty hole for her." She added, "And I'm just forever grateful because they didn't look at her like she was just a dog. All lives matter. Dogs, birds, officers.” Edna relies on a wheelchair, and she says Daphne is blind. They’ve been together nearly two decades. Now they have a chance to keep their partnership going although it almost ended.
