A British victim of a so-called honour killing in Pakistan was raped before her murder, the officer in charge of the investigation has said.
Samia Shahid, a 28-year-old woman from Bradford was killed in July in Jhelum district in northern Punjab province, Pakistan.
The three member investigation team selected by Shabhbaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab, has also concluded that Ms Shahid’s former husband and father were responsible for her killing in a report to be handed to local police.
Abubakar Buksh, who heads up the team, also told the BBC that they are trying to secure the return of her sister and mother to Pakistan for questioning about any possible involvement in the murder.
Local police say that Ms Shahid’s former husband, Chaudry Muhammad Shakeel, confessed to strangling her with her scarf. Her father, Chaudry Muhammad Shahid, is being held as an accessory to her killing.
Mr Shahid is accused of luring his daughter to Pakistan under the pretext of illness, where Mr Shakeel is said to have murdered her.
Both men have been remanded until September 5.
Ms Shahid’s death occurred during a trip to her family home in the village of Pandori. Her relatives initially said that she had suffered a heart attack.
Syed Mukhtar Kazim, her second husband, believed her death to be the result of an honour killing as her family disapproved of her remarriage.
