Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson has taken a lot of heat for his ever changing position on how to combat climate change. Well, he’s flip-flopped again on the issue — claiming it’s the end of the world as we know it and he feels fine.
Johnson was speaking at the National Press Club on Thursday and a question about a carbon tax came up. The Libertarian Party nominee has had a mixed record on the issue, declaring he was for it before he was against it.
His free-market side has won out and now he’s absolutely opposed to any such tax because in the long run it will cost trillions and do very little to change the climate.
“I think the world is getting warmer, I think that it’s man caused,” Johnson told the audience. “That said, should we be engaged in cap and trade taxation? No, I don’t think that we should.”
Oddly enough, one of the biggest reasons Johnson is opposed to a climate tax is because the Earth is doomed to end anyway.
“I mean the long term view, should we take the long term view when it comes to global warming? I think we should,” Johnson said. “In billions of years, the sun is going to actually grow and encompass the Earth, right? So global warming is in our future.”
