SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The man deputies say got an 11-year-old pregnant stormed out on his bond hearing Wednesday.
“I waive my rights,” said Derrick Burris as he got up from his seat. “Judge: shut up, don’t talk in here. DB: I waive my rights. Judge: Don’t talk in here. DB: I wave my (bleep) rights.”
“He’s not going to get bond anyway,” the Judge said after Burris left the room. “I can’t set bond on anything that carries up to life in prison.”
Investigators say Derrick Kendall Burris assaulted a girl and got her pregnant at 11-years-old.
Detectives say she is related to an acquaintance of the suspect, and DNA proves Burris is the father of the now 12-year-old’s baby. Investigators say the girl originally told school personnel the assault was by someone closer to her age, and eventually told them it was Burris.
This wasn’t Burris’ first run in with the law. We checked with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and learned that back in 2004, he was charged with Armed Robbery with a deadly weapon and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
