The horrific footage captured on CCTV in a Malaysian shopping centre shows the father holding the little girl in a red coat as he walks past with her on his shoulders.
Seconds later, the child falls onto the ground after slipping off his shoulders as he arrived at the top of the escalator one floor above.
The shocking incident happened in the city of George Town in Penang State, north-western Malaysia, where local media said the girl was in a critical condition and fighting for her life.
