Texas authorities said on Monday that a 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed by police was holding a BB gun.
Mother-of-two Micah Dsheigh Jester was shot dead by officers in Austin on Sunday.
In a statement, Austin police said that Jester was holding a BB gun and yelling ‘shoot me, shoot me, kill me’ while pointing the weapon at them, according to NBC News.
Police were responding to a 911 call made by Jester’s husband at around 3:45am, who was complaining about her ‘erratic’ behavior.
He warned police that his wife had a weapon.
Police said that one of the responding officers, Deborah Lindeman, had a background in mental health training.
The other officer who responded to the call was a three-year veteran of the force.
When the officers approached Jester at her apartment complex in south-central Austin, she aimed her gun at them and began moving toward them.
Police said that Jester refused the officers’ repeated demands to drop the weapon – and then opened fire.
