An attempt by a restaurant waitress in central China to abduct a customer’s toddler was foiled as police tracked down the kidnapper with the help of surveillance cameras planted around the city.
The traumatic incident happened on Tuesday in the city of Shiyan in Hubei Province. Footage shows how the mother, identified only by her surname Peng, walked into a restaurant with her 10-month-old baby, and was greeted by the waitress. The attendant seemed to get along with the infant, and offered to look after him while the mother was leaving for a while. However, by the time the mother returned to the counter a few minutes later, the baby and his caretaker were gone.
Within two hours, the police managed to locate the waitress by monitoring recordings from various security cameras, which led them to where the abductor was hiding. The waitress, who is now in custody, admitted that she carried off the kid because she liked him and wanted to adopt him. Further investigation into the case is currently underwa
