Philadelphia rapper and NRA member Maj Toure is the founder of Black Guns Matter, a group that teaches responsible gun ownership in inner cities. “It’s painted that if you have a gun, you have to be the bad guy or law enforcement,” Toure said.
BGM is not affiliated with Black Lives Matter — BGM is about conflict resolution and encouraging gun owners be more aware of the gun laws in their respective cities. Gun laws can be complex and local laws can cause missteps.
According to Toure, it isn’t uncommon in some urban areas to have gun owners unknowingly break the law. “These are not guys that are hiding, they not the killers, they not. They’re working class dudes… and they just don’t know the rules,” said Toure.
