A commentator for The Blaze called Black Lives Matter the “new KKK” in a tweet Friday, a move that has people calling for her firing.
Tomi Lahren, the host of The Blaze’s Tomi, faced criticism from a since deleted tweet she posted on Friday after the Dallas shooting, reports The International Business Times. Lahren’s tweet compared Black Live Matter to the KKK.
“Meet the new KKK, they call themselves Black Lives Matter but make no mistake their goals are far from equality. #Dallas #bluelivesmatter,” the tweet read.
Lahren later went on the CNN to defend herself and her tweets. David Zurawik, a media critic for the Baltimore Sun, accused Lahren of being “reckless” and going to far in her comments.
“‘You did. You did go too far, Tomi. You did,” Zurawik said during their exchange. “I wish it was your employer’s opinion. That’s really reckless, that kind of tweet at the situation we’re in. As a journalist, what you did appalls me.”
Lahren defended herself by saying that she is a “commentator” and not a “journalist.”
“I’m allowed to have my feelings and my opinions and I stand behind the things that I say because the thing that hurts people the most is when you’re honest, when you look at something from an honest lens from your perspective and you bring that forth, you are immediately labeled for it and you are immediately criticized,” Lahren said on CNN.
