On Tuesday, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) appeared on Fox Business Network’s “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” to discuss President-Elect Donald Trump’s cabinet.
“President-elect Tru
mp has put people around him, whether you agree or disagree politically, have run things. They’ve done things. They’re not just picked out of thin air,” Manchin told Cavuto about Trump’s cabinet picks.
As for Trump’s pick for Energy Secretary, former Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), Manchin said: “Rick was the governor of one of the largest states we have in our country for more than anybody else, ten years.”
“I have confidence Rick will do a good job,” Manchin went on to say.
Cavuto asked Manchin if he thought that the Trump administration would also support clean energy policies.
“There’s been more research and technology money spent on renewables in the last eight years than anyone could have ever imagined. And with that being said, we’re still counting on coal, gas, nuclear to provide about 80 to 85 percent of our energy needs for our country and very little technology was spent on that,” Manchin told Cavuto. “We’re not going to be able to spend what we had before on renewables, but renewables basically are coming of their own. They’re going to be able to be more competitive and they’ll have a place, and I’m all for that.”
Manchin also talked about the Electoral College results, saying “people just got to get over it and go on.”
