An eyewitness was recorded on video saying the driver of the car involved in the BourkeSt ram raid in the Melbourne CBD screamed "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar."
Police also said it was a "deliberate" act as did a number of witnesses at the scene. Reporters also originally noted that the driver was of Middle Eastern appearance based on eyewitness accounts. Police now say this had nothing to do with terrorism. Several news outlets have also retracted the fact that the driver was Middle Eastern.
