On Friday January 27th, 2017, former “The Apprentice†contestant Omarosa Manigault made a controversial appearance on “The View†daytime talk show. Omarosa has had a long business relationship and friendship with Donald Trump that stretches back many years from the “Apprentice†days and has now manifested itself into a job at the White House in the Trump administration as Director of Communications for the Office of Public Liaison. Her duties will include, but not be limited to, reaching out to specific communities in the United States to express the goal of a Trump administration to everyday people. Especially the black community. Omarosa being black herself and her new job got under the skin of a few hosts on “The View.â€
Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin are the two main offenders in this situation. Sunny Hostin has a black father and a Puerto Rican mother - so she often takes up issues from the “Borg†style of mentality, if you will, for the black community. She addressed issues of Omarosa being used as a token for the Trump administration to try and appeal to the black community. Omarosa responded that she has been around the White House before this administration, working for Al Gore (and also Bill Clinton). She also spoke about how she grew up in housing projects in Youngstown Ohio, had her father taken away by murder when she was very young, and worked her way to the top and was never given anything in life.
Joy Behar, on the other hand, seemed to have a personal axe to grind with Donald Trump. When Omarosa was speaking, she would interrupt with quick quips about Trump’s tax returns, allegations of “grabbing†women and more. Omarosa would swiftly brush off the things that Behar, as well as the rest of the “hosts†on the program would throw at her, and continue to preach the good message of how Donald Trump’s administration will be a good one for America.
The end of the show was especially sweet, even if viewed as mean by many when Omarosa told Joy something along the lines of “I hope you’re able to find joy in your life, Joy.†She said it with the same devilish, but confident grin she always wears, and it was sweet. The forecast for the next four to eight years are looking sweet as well
