Violence erupted again in the suburban town of Bobigny, Paris on Saturday, after a 22-year-old black man Theo was allegedly raped and assaulted by police officers during an identity check last week.
Around 2,000 people took part in the demonstration that began at 16:00, in support of Theo, the injured man, in the hospital.
Alex, a protester, said, "I come here because this matter touches me deeply. These things always happen. I feel it's very brutal."
The riot police said, most of them protested peacefully, but hundreds created havoc across the town.
Around 17:00 Saturday, crowds of youths began to move closer to police, hurling water bottles and sticks at them, and setting fires.
Shortly afterwards, a vehicle owned by the RTL radio station was set alight by youths. Police then used tear gas against the rioters, while some protesters were breaking glass windows of buildings nearby using stones.
The tear gas caused most of the protesters to disperse, with only a few getting into standoffs with police officers.
By 20:00, four cars and two buildings were set ablaze. But there have been no reports of any injuries, according to police.
Currently, the four police officers have been suspended from their duties and one has been charged with rape, and three others with assault.
