Dramatic footage shows rescue of woman attempting suicide in E China

Surveillance cameras recorded a dramatic moment last weekend as a woman attempted to commit suicide following a quarrel with her boyfriend at a railway station in Bengbu City, in east China’s Anhui Province.

A woman can be seen rushing to the second floor of the Bengbu South Railway Station, climbing over the safety railing and trying to jump from the platform. A man suddenly comes into view and catches her hands just in time but is unable to pull her up. Another man with a child later runs up to help while the child runs away to get help.

After three police officers came to the site, the woman was lifted over the railing to safety. "If she had fallen from the six-meter-high platform, she would have been badly injured, or could have even died," said Wang Di, a local police officer at the railway station.
According to witnesses, the woman wanted to leave by train, but her partner was not willing to let her go. The quarrel between the couple then escalated, leading to the woman attempting to commit suicide.
