Violent thug Luke Geoghegan, 28, was caught on CCTV hurling a hammer to smash the front window so accomplices could throw Molotov cocktails.
But the midnight raid went horribly wrong when one petrol bomb exploded prematurely in the garden next door in a quiet city suburb.
Another gang member appeared unable to light her makeshift bomb.
The target of the raid was not even at home that night, Plymouth Crown Court in Devon heard.
