A woman has a bystander to thank for saving her life as he jumped into the water to save her from drowning on Sunday in the coastal city of Qingdao in north China's Shandong Province.
Video shot by another bystander shows a young man in white, identified as Wang Haomiao, jumping from a seawall into the freezing water to save the woman who was struggling to stay afloat. While approaching the woman, the young man grabbed a life buoy and gave it to her. However, their problems were not over yet as the seawall was too slippery for them to hold on, leaving them at the mercy of the sea. That is when staff members at a nearby marina drove their boat out to pull them from the water.
"The woman was in great panic in the water and the man was saving her. As soon as our boat reached them, we four pulled the woman on the boat and carried them to safety." said Liu Zongbin, a staff member at the marina.
"I saw a life buoy and threw it to the woman but she failed to grab it. I heard someone ask if anyone can swim, so I jumped into the water to save her.I felt nothing at first when I was in the water, but after I came back I felt cold." said Wang.
Thanks to the help of all involved in the rescue, both Wang and the woman suffered no injuries and left the scene.
