Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), who is co-sponsoring a resolution that calls for “opposing fake news and alternative facts,” told MSNBC’s Al Velshi on Thursday that the best way to oppose fake news is to watch MSNBC, which reports “real news,” and thanked the network for speaking “truth to power.”
The resolution, introduced by Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) and co-sponsored by Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), in addition to Lieu, accuses the Trump administration of being a major purveyor of “fake news” and says that “the president must immediately acknowledge his support of the First Amendment and express his support for United States democracy.” It adds that “White House spokespersons should not issue fake news.”
Republicans are not expected to take up the resolution.
After the Rachel Maddow/Trump tax return fiasco, I don’t think too many people, including liberals, think MSNBC reports “real news.”
