The high-rise Bonn-Center was brought crashing down by 250 kilos of explosives in Bonn on Sunday.
The 60 metre (197 feet) high building was constructed close to the government quarter of the city in 1969 and has been the source of much criticism since. It was regarded by many as an eyesore.
Linnarz Frank, Fire brigade (German): "Everything worked out fine, the fire brigade’s task was not to completely stop the dust, but only [to direct it] in the direction of the railway lines, and to protect adjacent buildings directly to the south. We managed to ensure this task was completed, of course the other dust[cloud] escaped in a westerly direction, that could not be avoided, which was also clear earlier. And the cooperation in our administration, with all involved was in my opinion exemplary and smooth. Many thanks."
