This is the gut-wrenching moment a burly footballer knocks a referee to the ground by kneeing him in the head during a vicious assault after being red-carded.
The sickening incident happened early into an amateur match in Portugal between Porto league sides Canelas 2010 and Rio Tinto.
Well-built Canelas number 10 Marco Goncalves was given his marching orders for punching an opponent in the face.
And he reacted in the worst way possible by attacking ref Jose Rodrigues appearing to grab him by the neck before smashing his knee into his face.
Police rushed onto the pitch to take Goncalves away and he was later arrested and told he would have to face trial.
The match, which had just started, was suspended as a result of the violence after two minutes.
The ref was taken to hospital with blood streaming from his face and told he had a broken nose.
Canelas announced after footage of the attack emerged that it was sacking Goncalves, 34.
Club president Bruno Canastro said: 'Marco Goncalves will never wear the Canelas FC 2010 shirt again.
'We want to show our full support for referee Jose Rodrigues and his family and wish him a speed recovery.'
Luciano Goncalves, president of the Portuguese
Referees Association, called the incident 'shameful.'
He said: 'What happened is shameful for football and must never happen again. We run the risk that one day a referee will be killed.'
Unrepentant Goncalves claimed afterwards the opponent he had lost his rag with had insulted him by calling him a son of a b***h and telling him: 'Death to your mum.'
He told one local journalist he couldn't remember assaulting the ref.
A footballer was expelled from his club in December after punching a teenage ref to the ground during a match in the northern Spanish city of Zaragoza.
Rhanim Chouaib thumped the 18-year-old with a right hook before punching him twice more as he lay helpless on the ground after he showed a teammate a second yellow card for protesting a penalty.
