This is the amazing moment a young mother and her 19-month-old baby were rescued alive after getting trapped inside a 30ft tunnel whilst looking for their pet dogs.
The 40-year-old woman and her little girl were only discovered by chance after a passer-by heard a child crying and alerted the police.
The incredible rescue happened on the Canary island of Gran Canaria near a popular park in the area of Maspalomas.
The two had apparently fallen at least 12ft down the old shaft in a park but then got stuck another 18ft below the ground when the anxious mum tried to find her own way out.
Police say they are lucky to be alive because it was already getting dark when they were found and there was water and electricity wires inside the tunnel.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to leg injuries whilst her baby suffered a bruised forehead. Neither is is in a serious condition.
At first, police who arrived on the scene first could not see anyone down the tunnel but one of the officers managed to climb down the first level.
He then heard the woman who was carrying her baby in her arms, both only wearing summer clothing, and managed to pick them out with the light from his mobile phone.
The child was rescued first by the police with the help of firefighters and then the mother.
The two patrol officers who kept them calm throughout their ordeal are being hailed as heroes.
A spokesman for the emergency services said it would have been impossible for the trapped duo to get out had they continued to walk deeper into the tunnel as the other end was closed up.
They were treated at the park before being taken on to hospital.
The pet dogs the woman was looking for were found elsewhere and reunited with the family.
The woman's nationality is not known.
