Thousands of protesters marched through the Cologne city centre, Saturday, in a demonstration against the far-right Alternative for Germany's (AfD) federal convention, which was being held in the city simultaneously .
Earlier in the day, incidents of violence occurred when a group of protesters smashed the glass front entrance of a Commerbank branch. Another group of anti-AfD activists scuffled with police outside the convention.
Over 10,000 protesters marched, with about 4,000 police officers deployed along with helicopters, water canon trucks, bulldozers, K9 units as well as mount police units in order to secure the city and protect the AfD convention participants.
