Teacher drags student by the hair at Chinese school

Horrifying video footage shows the moment a schoolgirl from southeast China was dragged by a teacher while at school.

The girl had refused to go back to the classroom and so the teacher resorted to dragging the young girl using her hair.

The video footage was captured by a passer-by who later shared it on the internet.

The teacher was suspended for physical assault but the incident has sparked concern from web users.

According to Peoples Daily Online, the video footage was uploaded by the mailman, whose name has not been revealed, on May 2.

The incident took place at Huachen Foreign Language School in Dongguan city, Guangdong Province.

In the video, a teacher can be seen carrying a school uniform on her left hand and dragging the young girl's ponytail using her right hand.

The girl is crying loud and can be heard saying 'I want to go home'.

The mailman asked the teacher in the video: 'Teacher, how can you treat a primary school student like this?'

The teacher replied: '(She is) my daughter, it's none of your business.'

'Even so, you shouldn't treat your daughter like this. Thus, you are a teacher and it's not right to do so, isn't it?' questioned the mailman.

School staff explained to reporters that the year two student went out for lunch with her mother earlier and was sent back for the afternoon class.

But the girl refused to go back in the classroom and wandered near the gate.

Her class teacher came and talked to her for about 30 minutes until the girl agreed to go back inside.

However, the girl stopped mid-way and started to cry.

People's Daily Online stated that the principal of Huachen Foreign Language School called the parents and apologised.

The principal also admitted that the class teacher was suspended for physical abuse.

The girl was sent to a nearby hospital for a check-up and it was reported that no injuries were found.

Since the video was uploaded on social media, it has sparked anger online.

They demanded that the related government department look into incidents of school violence and prevent similar incidents from happening.

'warmxu' commented: 'This cannot be done with an apology. This is serious child abuse. Why can't our country set better laws and regulations to protect our children?'

Another user, 'stone1226', shared the video to Dongguan Education Bureau and requested an official response.
