A man was arrested Thursday night after leading authorities on a high-speed chase from Los Angeles County to San Diego, where his motorcycle apparently ran out of gas, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The pursuit began about 9:35 p.m. in El Monte after authorities tried to pull over the rider for speeding, CHP officials said.
The motorcyclist repeatedly hit speeds of more than 100 mph as he headed south on interstates 605, 405 and 5, according Los-Angeles based TV helicopter crews. He reached 120 to 130 mph at least once, according to CBS Los Angeles.
Once in San Diego, two police patrol vehicles with dogs joined the chase.
The rider eventually went on southbound I-805, where his speeds dropped progressively until he stopped south of Imperial Avenue after his motorcycle ran out of gas, a CHP dispatcher said.
CHP and police officers with dogs instructed the motorcyclist to peacefully surrender, and he did, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said. The dogs were not let loose.
The CHP took the suspect into custody about 11 p.m.
