A man who punched a puppy twice has been arrested after he was caught on surveillance footage.
Kirby Crane, 26, was at a gas station with his puppy in DeKalb County, Georgia on Sunday evening. Crane did not have a leash on the dog.
A man and a woman saw the puppy running around outside the store and started petting her.
Then they heard Crane yelling for the dog to come.
The woman picked up the five-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier and when Crane came up to them, he punched the puppy twice then dragged her away by the collar.
He admitted to being at the gas station, but said he didn't remember hitting the puppy. He said if he did hit her, it was to discipline her, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Police arrested Crane Tuesday. He was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
His puppy was brought Lifeline at DeKalb County Animal Service. She was renamed Begonia and they deemed her healthy.
Crane was released from jail Wednesday on bond of $3,000 and was ordered to stay away from animals.
