A NYPD patrol car slammed into a cyclist and sent him flying while officers were speeding off to the scene of a reported assault in Brooklyn.
The police officers were driving with the flashing lights and sirens on when the car bulldozed a cyclist in East Williamsburg around 1.40am on Monday.
The shocking crash, which appears to have been captured in an unsourced video online, sent the cyclist several feet into the air before he was taken to the hospital.
Police were driving southbound on Morgan Avenue near Stagg Street and said the cyclist was going 'against traffic' when he was struck.
In the video footage, the cyclist can be seen going the wrong way on Stagg Street before starting to make a turn on to the northbound lane of Morgan Avenue.
The cyclist was perpendicular to the police car when the vehicle suddenly appears in the frame and mows the cyclist down.
The cyclist's body can then be seen catapulting through the air before landing on the other side of the street.
The police car stops about two seconds after impact, and emergency personnel were called to the scene to take the cyclist to Elmhurst Hospital.
The cyclist is expected to survive although additional details about any injuries have not been released by the police.
While there is no audio in the surveillance footage, the patrol car did have the flashing lights on.
When the police finally arrived at the scene of the reported assault, they found an emotionally disturbed woman who was taken to a different hospital.
