The giant privacy curtains for Muslim swimmers that has rocked the boat at a public pool.
The council says the curtains will encourage more people to learn how to swim.
But not everybody is happy.
In fact, one Olympic coach - Dick Caine - says the screens are a disgrace.
Statement from Cumberland Council General Manager, Malcolm Ryan:
Women's Only Swimming Lessons are held on Wednesdays from 10:30am-11:00am and 2:30pm-3pm in the Program Pool. Women's Only Swim Passes for the Program Pool are available on Sundays. Female lifeguards are present during these Women's Only sessions.
The Program Pool is also available for children’s swimming classes and use by the elderly, people with a disability and patients havinghydrotherapy/physiotherapy, who may prefer additional privacy during their use of the pool.
Council has a responsibility to cater for the needs of its community. The curtains, which are retractable and can be used or not used at any time, ensure we have provided a space that is accessible to and inclusive for all. The Program Pool, which is 0.8-1.1m deep, is also fully accessible with a ramp.
