The moment a man steals a car with a 10-year-old girl inside was caught on gas station surveillance footage.
Thomas Boutwell, 46, stole a white Chevy Impala from an Oklahoma City gas station around 5.45am on Tuesday. A 10-year-old girl was asleep in the backseat with her dog.
The girl's father, William Mitchell, had just stepped inside to pay for gas and left the doors of the car unlocked.
But by the time he got back, his car and daughter were gone.
Mitchell was distraught as he spoke with reporters, pleading for the carjacker to return his daughter safely to him.
'Please return my daughter. Please return my daughter. I don't know what else to say. Do not hurt my daughter,' he said, according to Kfor.
Mitchell is a single father with four children, according to the outlet. He said the children's mother died several years ago.
The girl and her dog were found at another gas station about 30 miles away just before 7am.
Police say the two were dropped off on the side of I-40 and the girl walked with her dog to the gas station, according to News 9.
The girl was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the outlet.
After officials found Mitchell's daughter, he spoke to reporters again, expressing his relief.
'I'm thankful that she's fine and she's okay. And I just, I'm just happy that she's fine. And they're going to take her to have her checked out at the hospital, but she's fine,' he said, according to Kfor.
Around 9.15am, Boutwell and the stolen car were found in a rural part of Pottawatomie County.
Boutwell was arrested and first taken to a hospital before being taken to the Oklahoma County Jail, according to KOKH.
Oklahoma City Police say he was booked on felony charges.
