The shocking moment a Louisiana Supreme Court police officer shot a 23-year-old man during a fight outside of a French Quarter hotel was captured on video.
The incident happened around 11pm on Saturday night just outside of the Omni Royal Orleans hotel at the corner of St. Louis and Chartres streets.
A video shared to Facebook shows the officer, who has not been publicly named, on top of Daniel Methena, 23. They appear to be wrestling on the sidewalk.
Several people are standing around the two recording what's happening on their cell phones, and at one point a man tries to intervene but then walks away.
The officer gets off Methena before a single shot is fired causing bystanders to scream and frantically run away in fear before returning moments later.
Another witness can then be seen taking off his shirt to seemingly apply pressure to the man's shooting wound as the officer stands nearby.
Witnesses told WWL-TV that Methena appeared to be drunk and was shouting and banging on cars earlier.
Of the shooting, State Police Trooper Melissa Matey told DailyMail.com: 'There was an altercation outside the court... and the suspect was subsequently shot during the altercation.'
She said Methena is originally from Sugarland, Texas and is in stable condition at hospital.
Matey said once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into jail on several charges, including battery of a police officer and resisting arrest by violence or force.
She said the incident is still under investigation.
Matey said the officer was also injured during the altercation and was treated and released from a hospital Sunday.
Methena's aunt told DailMail.com that he was in town to celebrate a graduation with friends when he became separated from the group after going to the restroom at a restaurant where they were having dinner.
They claim that he was trying to get back to his hotel when the altercation happened.
