The jumpy footage from a terrified onlooker shows families running for their lives and children screaming as the bear attacks.


The dramatic incident took place during the Circus on Ice show in the city of Bila Tserkva in Ukraine.


It is reported that 'several' people were left injured, although an official figure of those hurt has not yet been released.


The brown bear can be seen lying on its back in the middle of the ring as it completes its performance before it suddenly gets fed up and lunges towards the audience.


The shocked animal trainer does not react in time and accidentally lets go of the lead, allowing it to run wild.


It is reported most of those injured are children.


The unnamed owner of the Circus on Ice has since apologized for the incident and vowed to return the money for all the tickets for the performance.


Circus workers claim that the shows will go on, despite the dramatic attack.


It is unknown whether police are investigating the incident.
