An Adelaide woman has been spared jail after leaving her two dogs - one of which died - in a hot car for over five hours.
A passerby was only able to save one of the Maltese dogs, Zoe, by breaking open a window after noticing it was stuck in the car on a 29 degree day.
In 2016 the woman received a suspended jail sentence and has been banned from owning any animals in the future.
Her excuse for leaving the precious pooches was that she was visiting her daughter in hospital.
'The dog that died was also neglected in terms of dental issues, matting and skin conditions. It was a tragic sight,' RSPCA Chief Inspector Andrew Lewis said in a statement.
While it wasn't searingly hot or in the 35 degree region the RSPCA believe the dog still died from heatstroke.
Nine News has released footage of Zoe being rescued and shows the timid pup being checked over at a vet clinic.
Her hair is deeply matted and she has dirt along her back. She appears to be positively terrified of the RSPCA staff as they handle her on the operating table.
She attempts to walk across the linoleum floor but struggles to move her legs forward.
In the only sentimental part of the video a vet pats Zoe's mangled fur as the dog looks up fondly.
Zoe received more than $3500 worth of vet treatments which her cruel owner will be forced to pay.
Since the day this footage was recorded the RSPCA has reported that the Maltese pup made a full recovery and has been adopted by a new caretaker.
