LET US OUT! New Yorkers get trapped on sweltering F train

New York commuters had the journey from hell last night after the F train broke down.
Passengers were trapped aboard with no light and no air conditioning for almost an hour following 'mechanical problems' on the southbound train in Manhattan on Monday.
Cellphone pictures and video revealed the nightmare conditions inside the packed, sweaty subway car as people waited to be freed.
The train became so hot and humid that one passenger was even able to scrawl 'I will survive' across a window.
Another video showed people, dripping with sweat, desperately trying to pry the doors open after the train finally arrived at the Broadway-Lafayette Street station.
When the doors finally opened, after another ten minutes sat at the platform, waiting commuters were blasted with a wall of heat, as escaping passengers warned: 'Do not get on this train.'
Michael Sciaraffo, who was riding home on the F train when it broke down at around 6.30pm, described dangerous conditions aboard as many began suffering with the extreme heat and enclosed space.
'Claustrophobia, panic and heat exhaustion began to set in for many folks,' he revealed after the train came to an unexpected halt.
'People started getting very worried. Almost everyone began fanning themselves with paper, as it felt as if it was just getting warmer and warmer. Beads of sweat began rolling down people's faces.'
Sciaraffo said passengers opened all the windows and tried to pry the doors open to try and get air in the train.
People began taking off their layers, first coats and jackets, but some even removed their shirts and pants, he said.
'Some people started getting faint, and we started to try and see if we could identify any elderly people or pregnant women on the car who were standing or needed water to see if they needed to sit and drink.'
Eventually another train pushed the broken F train from behind, to the platform which was so packed it took another ten minutes before they were allowed off.
Many have blasted the MTA for their handling of the situation, while others on social media revealed that such a break down was their greatest fear.
'MTA, this is crazy. Someone could have died in that heat,' said another.
'THIS IS ABSOLUTE MADNESS,' someone else tweeted.
But, this being New York, the exhausted passengers were still able to keep a sense of humor.
Passengers had yelled out 'Thanks Superwoman' when they train finally began moving again, Ilan Moss‏ revealed.
