A naked man is seen viciously beaten up by an angry mob in Manchester

This is the moment a heroic group of bystanders stopped a vicious mob from beating and kicking a man having a suspected mental breakdown after he stripped off in a water fountain.
Shocking footage shows a busy Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre descend into chaos as a naked man, later detained under the Mental Health Act, is pounced upon as he screams 'sorry'.
Despite getting soaked in water, two men and a woman can be seen apparently kicking the man mercilessly as he falls to the floor - stamping on him in front of parents and children.
As passers-by intervene to try to halt the attack, a second woman comes charging over and kicks the beaten victim, before being pushed violently to the ground herself.
Francisco Correa, who filmed the 'distressing' incident, said the man stripped off and barely attracted any attention before two men started shouting at him to 'get out'.
The naked man, who Mr Correa thought was homeless, can be seen falling to the floor 'cowering and screaming' as the men in black tops start kicking him before a woman runs over to join in.
Mr Correa, a 25-year-old student from Chile visiting Manchester to learn English, said: 'Suddenly this naked man walked into the fountains. This guy was completely naked but nobody really cared at the beginning and a couple of people started to take pictures.
'But then a guy appeared and started screaming at him to get out. He obviously didn't feel comfortable with a naked man being around and there were some young kids about.
'But it was no reason to shout at him the way he did. He was just a crazy man with no concept of reality. I think he was homeless because he was really thin.
'He was so scared and was cowering on the ground screaming but then they started kicking him [and] people started joining in. It was crazy. They created a mob to kick and beat him.'
He added: 'Basically what happened is people didn't like having a naked man around and they didn't have enough tolerance to think a bit and realise he needed help not to be attacked.
'They didn't want to get him out nicely, they just wanted violence. And those little kids must have seen the whole thing.
'Then a load of other people came in to defend the naked man who was still on the floor and it turned into a big struggle. People were going crazy at each other, one woman got thrown onto the ground.
'It was horrible to watch, it was so shocking. I felt so bad I had to leave the area after it happened and just get away, it was really distressing.'
While the crowd start to squabble among themselves, leaving the naked man lying on the ground, a man and woman duck into the fountains to pick up his soaked clothes and help him get back on his feet.
A man in a blue T-shirt and cap can be seen comforting the exposed victim while trying to help him get dressed.
Francisco, who is from Chile, said the crowd's behaviour gave him a 'bad impression' of the UK, which he thought was a tolerant place.
He said: 'It was nice and a relief to see one or two people start to help them man and help him get dressed - in the end he left with what looked like his t-shirt wrapped around him like a blanket.
'But the whole thing left me feeling really down and gave me a bad impression. I have been here since January and I have not seen anything like that or had any trouble.
'But this was just so weird. I come from South America so I've always thought that people in European countries respect each other and are more tolerant than other parts of the world.'
Greater Manchester Police were called with reports of an assault at Piccadilly Gardens around 7:55pm on May 21.
A man was detained under the Mental Health Act and a 22-year-old woman was arrested but later released without charge.
A police spokeswoman said: 'Shortly before 7:55pm on Sunday May 21 2017 police were called to reports of an assault at Piccadilly Gardens. No-one was injured.
'Police arrested a 22-year-old woman and she was later released without charge. A man was also detained under the Mental Health Act.'
